She was a member of the Society of Western Artists, exhibiting her work in the society’s Second and Third Annual Exhibitions, 1897-1899. Marie Rauchfuss was a well-documented Art Pottery decorator. She worked for Weller Pottery and Rookwood Pottery in the 1890s-1903. At Weller Pottery, Rauchfuss decorated Louwelsa and Aurelian ware. At Rookwood Pottery, Rauchfuss was known for her portraits of Native Americans and floral designs. In 1903, Rauchfuss moved to Louisville, Kentucky and set up a studio in the Norton Building where she exhibited her paintings and taught art classes. In 1904, her painting, entitled “The Kentucky Girl” (a portrait of her sister), was selected to be exhibited in the Kentucky Pavilion at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition. In 1905, Rauchfuss married James F. MacPherson (1861-1941). MacPherson continued her career under the name: Marie R. MacPherson. The MacPhersons lived in Jellico, Tennessee in 1910s and later returned to Cincinnati. MacPherson was an active member of the Woman’s Art Club of Cincinnati and continued to exhibit her work. MacPherson is listed as an animal and sporting artist. She was also a successful dog breeder and trainer of Pointers and Setters in field trials. Her paintings from this time depict dogs working in the field. In 1941, MacPherson’s husband passed away. Sometime in the 1940s, MacPherson moved to New York City. She joined the National Serigraph Society. MacPherson made a series of silkscreens and serigraphs. Her serigraphs were exhibited nationally through the society’s traveling exhibition program. She was also a member of the Progressive Citizens of America. In 1951, MacPherson married Francis “Frank” Joseph Seroni (1898-1963), and was known as, Marie R. Seroni.
