Description: Marx Brothers Night At The Opera Window/lobby Card - Original Restored NOTE: this poster was discovered having been used as a cardboard backing/matting from a late 1940 painting. Cardboard was in short supply and expensive so movie cards posters were often repurposed after the film closed. These were cut down to fit the new purpose making cardboard cards rare. This one was found with excellent colors having been sealed away and out of light for all these decades. It was cut down to fit approximately 1/2 inch on the right and the white space on top. It has been professionally restored by master paper restorer Jaime Mendez. The restoration is excellent (a 9 out of 10) but is visible upon very close examination. The history with this piece is probably worth the impact of having had the repair! Original MGM 1948 Re-Release Window Card, Art by Al Hirschfeld. Considered by some critics to be the best Marx Brothers film, it certainly boasts some of the finest examples of their uncanny wit and physical comedy. The brothers get mixed up with an opera company and a "divo" and diva (Jones and Carlisle) in love. In the attempt to bring the lovebirds together - both onstage and off - the Brothers create comic mayhem along with romantic merriment. Allan Jones, the father of sixties singer Jack Jones, and Kitty Carlisle, future wife of playwright Moss Hart, also turn in memorable performances. The ending is true Marx Brothers' genius at its best when Verdi's "Il Trovatore" is wonderfully mangled for all time.
