Description: Mary Taylor 'Whitianga, Mercury Bay, New Zealand' Original Etching 1988 This limited edition print is signed, dated, titled and numbered in pencil underneath the images (lower right, lower centre and lower left respectively).The triptych etching of coastal landscape depicts a ferry crossing from Ferry Landing to Whitianga against a backdrop of Mercury Bay with boats, seagulls, open sky and high cliffs covered in forest . A blossoming pohutukawa tree completes an atmospheric and tranquil scenery.The etching is hand-printed from the original design on a zinc plate and individually coloured by the artist. The deckle edge acid-free paper with three impressed images is attached to a back mount which creates a natural look in harmony with subject matter.The print is professionally mounted, glazed and framed to enhance and protect the artwork. It is likely that the frame was made from local hardwood.The etching is one of the early works by Mary Taylor and has a small limited edition run of 90. Condition The etching, back mount and frame are in excellent original condition (please see the pictures). Taylor was born in Devonport, Auckland in 1948. She is a New Zealand printmaker, painter and children's author.Mary Taylor was educated at the University of Auckland and Massey University, and also studied etching at Auckland Society of Arts. Formerly a teacher, she has worked as a professional artist since 1983.Mary Taylor specialises in hand-coloured etchings (some include aquatint technique) and relief prints executed from carved lino blocks. She paints in acrylic and oils on board or canvas.Mary Taylor has exhibited with the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts and internationally.
