Description: A nice example of the early Pekin Japan style from Charles James Mason Pottery in Staffordshire, as shown in "Godden's Guide to Mason's China and the Ironstone Wares" on page 164, plate 242. The flowery and relatively light rim decoration show this to be an early example. The mark dates the item to 1815-1830 and we judge this to be earlier in this period. The center image looks to be a finely hand colored transfer. 10" diameter. Excellent condition. To be conservative we have taken a picture of the faint mark on the bottom of the rim which may be a firing crack in the vitreous glaze finish. The plate rings "true" when "dinged" and there is no crack in the porcelain. No chips or nibbles. A very hard to find piece. Free shipping in the USA.
