Description: A-055T. H. Witherby brand chisels and slicks are among the most highly desirable edge tools out there from yesteryear. Known for their quality steel, with exceptional edge keeping ability, this example is a great choice for the serious woodworker. It measures a full 31" in length, and the cutting edge is 3-3/8" across. This laminated slick retains an outstanding length of 11" from its sharp edge to the shoulder and tips the scales at a bit over 5 pounds. The slick is offered as I purchased it, and I have not used it myself. A previous owner has apparently fit it with a newer cherry(?) handle and filled in some former mounting holes in the socket. Witherby products are difficult to date for me, but most seem to have been made by the Winsted Edge Tool Works in CT from the later 1800's, and into the 1900's. I would guess that this example would fall somewhere in the middle of that run. This item will be shipped full length in a well-protected USPS Priority Mail, box. Thanks for looking.
