Description: The noted Canadian writer Francis Sherman (1871 – 1926) was successful as a poet as well as a banker, and soldier in World War I, rising through the ranks from private to Major in the Royal Canadian Pay Corps. This slim volume of poetry is a 1908 reprint of Sherman's first book poems originally published in 1896. The antique poetry book has a lovely decorative Art Nouveau era cover and gold gilt title lettering on the front and back covers as well as the spine. The vintage poetry book shows wear consistent with its age and use. The corners are bumped and frayed, there are some scratches on the cover, and the back hinge webbing is exposed. A previous owner, E E Colby, wrote their name in script at the front of the book. Matins by Francis ShermanSherman, French & Company, Boston, 190858 Pages; 7" x 4 1/2"
