Description: Maxfield Parrish’s “The Sandman” - Original Matted and Period-Framed Color Illustration (Frontispiece) from the October, 1905 Edition of Century Magazine. The color and clarity is stunning. The image measures 5”x 6 1/2”. Outermost frame dimensions are 9 1/4”x 11 1/4”. Maxfield Parrish’ signature barely discernible bottom left corner (photo #5). A very small scratch and ink break in his bag and a black dot in the upper margin (photo #8). The only other color appearance of ‘The Sandman’ was in the 1914-1917 Janson ‘Guerin/Parrish’ Portfolios/Books (2 versions, 1@45 prints, one at 20). A perfect example of Parrish using himself as a model. It is backed with acid-free cotton rag board, new hardware, dustcover and bump-ons April, 2024 and ready to hang. Truly, a quite uncommon piece.
