Description: This is a vintage sample of barbed wire fencing. This sample features a John McNeill patent dated January 15, 1878. This wire is called "McNeill's Small Early "H" Sheet Metal Plate", by collectors. (ref Hagemeier 676-B). This wire features two twisted together round line wires. Barbs are four pointed made from sheet metal. Sheet metal is cut into an arrowhead shape, with tongue of metal removed from center of pointed end to make and "H" shaped barb. Barb is inserted between line wires, and points bent in opposing directions to hold plates in between line wires. Sample shows moderate oxidation. Sample is 18" in length. There are three barbs.
