Four volume set detailing the Spanish-American War. Volume I includes the State of the Union address of President McKinley, December 5, 1898. The Reports of the Cabinet and Department Heads follow through Volume II. Volume III includes reports of the Military Departments, including many reports on the Spanish-American War. Volume III includes several pull-out maps, sketches, and diagrams concerning the War. There are two reports of Lieutenant-Colonel Theodore Roosevelt, First United States Volunteer Cavalry, including a report of Roosevelt’s charge with the Rough Rider’s up San Juan Hill. Volume IV is the annual Report of the Navy that provides details on thesinking of the USS MAINE that led to the start of the War. Volume IV includes information on Navy operations during the War, and includes pullout maps, and diagrams of battle damage sustained to US and Spanish battleships. Condition: The bindings are green cloth with gold color lettering. Each volume is approximately 6” x 9”. The pages in each volume are listed as: Vol. I – 900; Vol. II – 901 to 1720; VOL. III – 720; Vol. IV – 740. The bindings are fragile, faded, worn, bumped and some pieces missing on the spine. The front cover of Volume I, and the front and rear covers of Vol. III are separating. The separation in Volume III is expected given the weight and number of pull-outs in the volume. There are some torn pages, and small tears in a few of the pull-outs. The folds of the pull-outs are very fragile and should be handled with care. I am an experienced buyer of the Annual Messages of the Presidents, and these volumes are scarce. I am not an experienced seller, so please rely on the pictures, and ask any questions.
