He was born in 1911 in Nikolaev, in the family of a shipyard's worker.The first paintings of the artist were painted with household paints, which remained after painting his parents' house. He learned to draw first from books, following the instructions from them he drew from life: a kettle, a bowl or a primus burning in the twilight. In 1930-1933 he studied at the Nikolaev Art College with D. Krainev. From 1933 he worked as a zincographer and artist at the editorial office of the newspaper, was the designer of streets and squares in Nikolaev. In 1935 he participated in the decoration of the House of Specialists in Nikolaev. He often painted portraits of loved ones, each time improving in portraiture. Gradually, his technique became diverse and with time he painted not only in oil, but also with charcoal and mastered the pastel technique. In 1936, at the invitation of the Odessa Film Studio, he entered the group of animators and moved to Odessa. He also worked as an artist at the Odessa Children's Cinema named after M. Frunze. The first exhibition of the artist's paintings took place in 1938, where he presented several of his portrait sketches. During the war he painted posters and satirical pictures for the TASS News Agency. In the post-war years, he was an artist of art-production workshops at the Art Fund of the USSR.
