Description: This Michigan Copper Ore Slab is a unique piece of natural beauty. Slab cut from native copper ore. With its origins from the United States, this display specimen is a rare find. Sourced from Michigans Keweenaw Peninsula Caledonia Mine. The slab's natural texture and colors make it a great addition to any collection or as a standalone piece for display. Very small “lip” left from the slabbing process. Priced accordingly. The Copper Country is an area in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in the United States, including Keweenaw County, Michigan, Houghton, Baraga and Ontonagon counties as well as part of Marquette County. The area is so named as copper mining was prevalent there. Copper Country is highly unusual among mining districts in that the copper mined was predominantly in its elemental ("native") form, rather than in the form of compounds (mostly oxides and sulfides) that form the basis of the copper ore at almost every other copper-mining district. This is a natural copper specimen and NOT treated to prevent tarnishing.
