Description: the JNR class 9600 steam locomotive was produced primarily by kawasaki heavy industries from 1913 thru the late 1920s; the "kunroku" - old man mountain - as it was nicknamed was the first japanese mass produced locomotive....828 locomotives were produced and used exclusively in freight service, having a top operating speed of 65 kph. a few 9600s continued to be utilized in special circumstances into the 1960s.......most were supplanted with the arrival of the ubiquitous d51 in the 1930s..... i acquired this jnr class 9600 from a very large reseller in japan who eschews offering any evaluation of model railroad items.......upon arrival, the a9706's condition exceeded my expectations - aesthetically impressive shell condition and detail, wheel sets pristine......the test run exhibited 25% on the rheostat for n scale factored running speed, smooth and consistent operation, the head lamp comparatively vibrant considering the pre chip led technology (model's original release date 2000).........a truly fine a9706........ the only accessory for this model is a rapido coupler for the front end, whose installation protocol must be essentially intuited as microace provides only a rudimentary sketch as guidance..........
