Description: TO INSPECT BEFORE BIDDING PLEASE MESSAGE US. WE ARE LOCATED IN NAZARETH,PENNSYLVANIA CONVENIENT TO NEW YORK CITY AND PHILADELPHIA METRO AREAS WITH EASY ACCESS FROM : I-78, US Route 22 and PA Route 33.If you know Mid-Century Modern, you certainly appreciate the designs of Harvey Probber, perhaps most famous as an inventor of modular, sectional seating. "In the middle years of the twentieth century, Harvey Probber became one of America's leading designers. Though he considered himself a modern designer, his approach to modernity favored exotic woods, highly polished lacquer, hand-rubbed finishes and opulent upholstery fabrics." My parents furnished a New York City home with his living room and bedrooom furniture at the start of the 1960's. Large pieces were sold in the 1970's, others went to a Manhattan apartment and later divided up among children post-2000.This piece served as an armoire in their master bedroom. In the apartment it was used as a tall credenza for storage in the dining room. We have used it as a tall dresser for clothing in our bedroom. Aside from some finishing touch up, the major "needs work" are the wooden drawer pulls. If this piece was fully restored it could potentially bring up to $ 6000 on the retail market. It is quite good overall condition considering 50+ year age and several moves. A tribute to mid century craftsmanship. It is both large and heavy, so it will definitely require minimum 2 people to move it out from ground level to transport vehicle. No steps or stairs involved. NOTE TO COLLECTORS: We also have a very large and sturdy contemporary style dining room table that was used in the above mentioned Manhattan apartment in the 1970's. It has similar woods and finish as the Harvey Probber piece. Owner wanted a stylistic match to the Probber chest. It has a mechanism for opening table and expanding the length-- we have the two additional leaves in their own storage case. It is a mid-century modern design by Edward J Wormley, manufactured by Dunbar Furniture in Berne, Indiana. It has been in regular use for 50 years, so refurbishment is required -- the top surface in particular will need refinishing. Anyone interested in acquiring the Probber piece might want to inspect this, as we will consider sellng it.
