Description: Our client's unusual chandelier in the manner of Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann (1879-1933) is crafted from alabaster stone with oval shaped opaque glass beads, and features eleven electrified sockets. Measures 37 in (94 cm) tall and 25 in (63 cm) across. Apparently unsigned and dating from the second quarter of the twentieth century. It was rewired some time ago, as there is evidence of new socket locations mounted to the steel frame. Wired for use in the U.S. and ready for installation. It has an alabaster ceiling cap to partially hide wiring, glass beads cascading over a narrow clear glass shade with three sockets inside, a wider clear glass shade over which a second cascade of beads drape with four sockets inside, and four sockets positioned deep inside the alabaster coupe at base with a third layer of cascading beads draping over the sides of the alabaster. This chandelier also for sale in our client's gallery in New York City. Prior to using "Buy it Now", please contact us so we may confirm availability. Thank you. Item ha-1822. Item sold as is. All sales final. This design was previously and erroneously attributed by Christie's to a design by the French interior designer, Armand-Albert Rateau. Rateau is known to have designed hanging fixtures using alabaster coupes, but the use of oval-shaped glass beads in cascading designs are elements seen in at least two Ruhlmann designs which have appeared at major auction in the past ten years.
