Description: This is a vintage antique sample of barbed wire fencing. This sample features a Purches Miles patent dated October 8, 1878. This wire is called "Miles Long Pointed Staple Barb Around Two Twisted Lines" by collectors. (ref Hagemeier 455-B). This wire features two twisted together round line wires. Barbs are two pointed made from a round wire staple. Staple is clinched over both line wires. Sample is 18" in length and has four barbs. Barbs are well spaced, and cut is well centered. Sample shows light pitting. There is some light bending of barbing points, but no broken, or missing barbing points.
