I will be here waiting with my email open... MINNESOTA VIKINGS original MARIETTA Kineomatic-21 Clear Shell Suspension helmet. This helmet is original. The helmet has an original warranty decal on the interior with a datecode of 1973 - the start of the Vikings Dynasty! This is a very rare helmet. The Vikings, as many of you know, did not typically use any clear shell helmets - like other NFL teams did. I have never, ever, in my entire life seen another Vikings Marietta helmet. Ever. Vikings game used helmets like a couple other teams, are almost impossible to find from any era, let alone a very rare model of helmet from the early 1970's in this condition. This is really a very rare one of a kind. Wow. Everything on this helmet with the exception of the facemask clips is original. In fact, the second photo in this listing shows what the helmet looked like before I changed out the clips. As you know, the original 70's clips became very brittle with age and broke very easily. In fact, when I put the screwdriver onto the screws and just gently twisted, the remaining portions of the clips shattered into several pieces. The helmet did not come with a chinstrap, so we aren't going to put one on that is not original to this helmet. The shell, the leather padding, and the Schutt NOPO facemask are all original. The helmet has the very rare Marietta jawpads - original to the helmet. What? The jawpads? Yes. We all know how valuable the original jawpads of rare helmets are. Heck we have all seen Rawlings leather jawpads sell on ebay, quite regularly for $500 per pair. When have you seen a pair of Marietta jawpads? Ever? Nope. Guess what. Buy the helmet and the original jawpads are there - no need to hunt for something you will never ever find. The helmet also has the original Marietta facemask screws and hardware. Look closely at the photo of any 1970's Marietta helmet. Same screws. The decals are on the outside of the helmet. Marietta produced helmets with decals on the outside and on the interior of the helmet. Same with helmets with center stripes. Some helmets have the stripes on the interior and the logo decals on the outside of the helmet. Marietta sold out to MAXPRO which continued this same practice. The decals are original to the helmet and are adherred rather well for a helmet over 40 years old. Marietta had a local source for decals and most times did not use the same decals as what was considered "normal" to the team - or what other helmet manufacturers used. These decals are printed on clear vinyl - much like the modern era team decals and what the Vikings used. In fact many of the decals that they used were printed on clear vinyl - just like the on-field decals are produced today. Many of them were not die-cut colored vinyl like Riddell used - i.e. Giants, Bills, Patriots, Vikings, etc. They were ahead of their time so to speak on their padded helmets, but also on their decals. There is the classic Marietta logo on the right hand rear of the helmet and the Kineomatic-21 decal on the left side rear. Both of these decals are on the inside of the shell. The helmet has the original factory paint - including the original factory interior gray paint. The adhesive of the velcro used to hold the padding in place has bled through the paint - as seen on the photos and as seen on most Marietta clear shell helmets from this era. There are no player numbers on the inside. The helmet has two stickers on the inside of the helmet - all original and all adherred well. A size sticker - which reads 7 - 71/8 and a date code sticker which reads FEB 73. The helmet was sourced originally by a long time employee of Marietta and comes with a signed letter from the original owner. A very rare helmet. Not sure what it is worth. I've never seen another. I will wait for the photos to come in from the Viking helmet collectors. This may very well be the only one that you will ever see - perhaps a one of a kind! You've seen modern game worn helmets and jerseys go for much higher. Modern players wear a different jersey every game, with many superstars wearing a different jersey every half of every game. How many other Vikings Marietta helmets have you seen? We have been doing this a long time. This is the only one we have seen. The helmet is in my personal collection - in a display cabinet, safe. If it sells it sells. I am in no hurry and am not desperate. Make your offer, however don't get your hopes up. Being a fan of a different NFL NFC North team located in Wisconsin makes this one available, however if I were a Vikings fan, I might see if the local bank had a safety deposit box large enough to put this one inside...
