Minolta MC Tele Rokkor-PF 100mm f2.5 v.1 with caps and hood, NEAR MINT

Description: You are looking at a very clean and nice Minolta MC Tele-Rokkor-PF 100mm f/2.5 telephoto portrait lens. This is a first generation version that is identifiable by its straight rather than deeply scalloped knurled metal focus ring and silver-colored aperture ring. This was one of the original Minolta lenses designed for the meter coupling and full-aperture metering of the Minolta SRT-101 and was first introduced in 1969. Minolta updated the lens to the version 2 (deep “hills and valleys” on the metal focusing ring) sometime in 1970, so this lens was made sometime in 1969 or early 1970 before the cosmetic update. Optically both the version 1 and 2 are the same, but are very different from the later plain MD (MD III) version. This lens is definitely a product of its time, and that is a very good thing. Build quality is far better than any modern lenses except for the likes of Leica M as its all metal and glass. You won’t find any cost-cutting plastic parts here, just a very solidly built lens with a nice, clicky aperture ring and exceptionally smooth focusing ring. This lens (and most others of this time period) is simply a pleasure to use. Minolta’s SR mount was used in all manual focus Minolta 35mm single lens reflex cameras from 1958’s SR 2 through the last X-700 and X-300 models they sold in the early 2000s. All Auto-Rokkor, MC Rokkor, MD Rokkor, plain MD and both MC and MD Celtic lenses use the same SR mount and with the exception of a few early ultra-wideangle lenses they will all work on any manual focus Minolta 35mm SLR camera. More interesting is that they also are all easily adapted to modern mirrorless digital cameras through simple and inexpensive “dumb” adapters (dumb, meaning they have no electronic coupling). I shoot both film and digital and have used this lens with excellent results on my Minolta film cameras like the SRT-102 pictured and on my digital Canon EOS R5. This is vintage lens, with all of the good and bad that comes with that. The good is the previously mentioned build-quality, but also the beautiful rendering, soft and gentle color transitions and some of the best bokeh (the quality, rather than quantity of background blur). As a 100mm lens with a fast f/2.5 aperture this lens is well suited for portraiture, and that is where it is at its best. At f/2.5 or f/4 skin tones and texture a rendered beautifully and the semi-long focal length and fast aperture make it easy to isolate your subject with crisp sharpness and blur busy backgrounds into beautiful cream. Stopped down to f/5.6 or f/8 and contrast and sharpness reach modern levels and this lens can even be used for landscape or architectural photography, even on high-resolution digital cameras like my 45 megapixel Canon R5 or the equivalent from Sony, Leica, Panasonic or Nikon. The lens is in outstanding used condition with some minor dust inside that will not affect image quality. All vintage and even most modern lenses have some internal dust, but this one has very little. It also comes with the original Minolta front and a generic Minolta rear lens caps and the original metal Minolta lens hood made specifically for this lens (needed on these vintage lenses). Portrait lenses just don’t get much better than this, even today. I am only selling my copy is that I found an unused MC-x (rubberized focus ring) copy of this lens in similar condition that better matches the rest of my MC Rokkor lenses (all MC-x). This MC I version is actually a bit nicer cosmetically. I am not a store or dealer, just a photographer and collector selling my own personal lens. This lens is 55-years-old, and as such it is sold as-in, with no warranty expressed or implied. That said, these Minolta lenses from the 1960s and 1970s (with the exception of the exotic lenses like the 24/2.8, 58/1.2 and 85/1.7) are very straightforward and easy to service. Kept clean this lens will last longer than any of us do. The lens will come well-packed and will ship by USPS Priority Mail anywhere in the continental United States, insured for the full purchase price. This listing is for the lens, caps and hood only. The Minolta SRT 102 camera pictured with the lens is for illustration purposes only, and is not included in the sale. Low-Ball offers will be ignored. This is not an expensive lens, and I am not desperate to sell. I just don’t need two copies. Thank you for looking
