His first solo project, Revenge, had gone nowhere--but Hooky, like John Wayne, was not meant for the quiet life. Instead, he recruited singer/guitarist David Potts (a hired hand, reputedly, on the Revenge sessions) and formed Monaco--not so much a successor to New Order's legacy, as its perpetuation. In fact, neither the band's driving brand of pop, nor the fact that Potts was a dead ringer, vocally, for Hook's former band member Bernard Sumner, exactly hurt: many people, upon first hearing tracks like "Shine" and "What Do You Want From Me?", simply assumed they were advance salvos from some soon-to-be-released New Order album. As a collection of songs, Music For Pleasure is unexpectedly strong, with "Sweet Lips" and "Junk" fully indulging Hook's Euro-disco leanings.
