Here is a superb fossil fish from the world-famous fossil beds of Fossil Lake, Green River Formation, Wyoming. From the Eocene, 52 million years ago. From the 18" layer of Fossil Lake, this is an adult Diplomystus measuring approximately 7.6" in length, from tip to tip. Beautifully preserved, this complete specimen features exquisite ray fins, caudal fins (tail) and vertebrae as well as natural golden-brown pigment, which is found in this layer of the lake. The plate is from some of the hardest layer of the 18" level, which is called the "capping layer" and features the handsome dark slate colored stone making this an attractive display piece.
