25" (H), Extremely Rare French Bisque, Aphrodite, Vion Baury & Jean Gille era

Description: This museum quality piece, attributed to Henri Ardant, is an antique gem from Limoges, France, and dates to 1858-1880. Unmarked. This magnificent piece is a rendition of Aphrodite surrounded by cherubs or putti that appear to be teasing the goddess of love. Putti are associated with Aphrodite, and so with romantic—or erotic—love. This fine depiction of Aphrodite presents her seated on a stump while putti attempt to forcefully get her attention by pulling her hair and dress. A third putto holds a touch perhaps to illuminate Aphrodite’s face. This figural group was delicately modelled with high attention, capturing realistic facial features, movement, and the divinity. This is not your typical bisque figurine as not many pieces of this quality and size were produced. This figurine is a perfect addition to any porcelain collection, collectors of artistic porcelain, and would make a thoughtful gift for a special occasion or loved one. Manufacturer –Henri Ardant & Cie. was an artistic porcelain company that produced superb pieces in Limoges between 1858-1880s. Given its limited operation, Henri Ardant pieces are extremely rare. We attribute this piece to Henri Ardant in consideration its style and on the opinion of fellow collectors. Alternately, the piece could have been modelled by Paris manufacturer (Old Paris Porcelain / Porcelaine de Paris) such as Jeune / Jean Gille. Condition - The figurine is in excellent condition for its age with paint almost intact. The index finger was restored but, as you can see, there is no way to tell as the work was professionally performed. The figurine has some kiln cracks (dress and between legs - see pictures), commonly found in piece is this size and weight. Kiln cracks have been stabilised with museum quality porcelain glue.
