"Bob" Van Ry (May 1935 - July 2, 2024) was an original stage manager of Saturday Night Live. He worked on the show from the show's inception in 1975 until his retirement in 2000, after 25 years with the show. His name was mentioned in a sketch, alongside Cheryl Hardwick (one of the show's original band members/keyboardist) who also retired after the Season 25 finale. Van Ry had served as a Stage Manager for the Directors Guild of America (DGA) from 1964[1] until presumably his death 60 years later in 2024, and served on the DGAs eastern AD/SM/PA Council from 1969-1988. In addition, he served as an Alternate on the National Board from 1985-1987 and served on four network contract negotiating committees in 1972, 1975, 1978 and 1984. Van Ry was an official NBC staff employee from 1964-1995, and in addition to more than 30 years as an NBC staff member, he stayed on Saturday Night Live for five more seasons before retiring in 2000. In addition to his 25 years at SNL, he also worked on such shows as Hullabaloo, Kraft Music Hall, and Live from Studio 8H which won two Emmys. In addition, he worked on the Miss America Pageant from 1975 1992, NFL Live wrap show, 1975 1992 , Super Bowls XI, XIII, XV, XVII, XX, XXIII and XXVII; the 1986 World Series, political conventions from 1972 1984, the summer Olympics in 1992 (Description from online source).
