Description: Original NASA Apollo Saturn V Skylab Artifact * Vintage NASA Apollo Saturn V Rocket / Skylab Flight Hardware, Telemetry Communication, Remote Analog Sub-Multiplexer Component Board, Marshall Space Flight Center, Astrionics Division * The Skylab Program's goals were to enrich our scientific knowledge of the Earth, the sun, the stars, and cosmic space; to study the effects of weightlessness on living organisms; to study the effects of the processing and manufacturing of materials utilizing the absence of gravity; and to conduct Earth-resource observations. The Skylab ATM specific mission objective was to observe the sun outside the earth's atmosphere. High-resolution observations of the solar disc provided data in the visible, ultraviolet, and X-ray regions of the electromagnetic spectrum to enable a better understanding of physical processes occurring on the sun. Skylab ATM Data Management System:The data management system processes the performance data from the ATM subsystems and scientific experiments and provides this data to the communication system for transmission to spaceflight tracking and data network (STDN) ground stations. The measuring subsystem includes nine signal-conditioning racks (SCR's). Signals not requiring signal conditioning are routed directly to the multiplexing subsystem bypassing the signal conditioning racks. The multiplexing subsystem accepts two forms of analog input data from the data sources which are accepted by the remote analog sub-multiplexer (RASMs) and the time division multiplexers (TDMs). Two forms of digital input data are accepted by the remote digital multiplexer (RDM) or by the Pulse Code Modulator (PCM)/Digital Data Acquisition System (DDAS). Each of the six Model 103 Remote Analog Sub-Multiplexers RASMs (in which these circuit boards were designed to interface and function) can accept up to 60 conditioned analog measurement signals in the 0 to 20 millivolt dc range. Each input is sampled 12 times per second. - Source: NASA.gov This artifact was used as part of the Skylab Apollo Telescope Mount (ATM) Communication System and was built by the Teledyne Systems Company. The 50M10940-1 NASA part number designates it as a Saturn V / Skylab Orbital Workshop System component. The circuit board was designed and manufactured to strict NASA "Manned Space Flight" specifications. It is conformal coated and of very robust construction.
