Description: Here we have a beautiful antique Trade knife, from the 1870's. A knife, with dark wood handle, and forged steel blade. A skinning knife, or castrating piece. The knife is wrapped with brass wire, a favorite style of adornment of their prized items. These were shipped in wooden casks to the Frontier by knife manufacturers from Europe and the East Coast for trade with the Natives and Trappers. A fantastic utilitarian tool, or defensive piece, a treasure from the High Plains and West, far from being in excellent condition, but with a fantastic patina appropriate to its age, and harsh life. 8" long. (The postcard is being shown for a context). A small packing fee is added to shipping.
