Slab earrings are hand-cut from rough rock, shaped, and polished. There is little or no silver work, so the beauty of the stone stands out. Traditionally, slab earrings were made out of shell or turquoise, but now Santo Domingo artists are creating earrings in different stones. Kewa (Santo Domingo) artist Chris Nieto made these lovely earrings. There is mosaic Turquoise, Apple Coral, Lapis, Serpentine, Mother of Pearl Shell, and Jet inlaid with silver on top of a Jet slab.
