Iron Cloud Del Iron Cloud, a Hunkpapa Lakota, wasborn in 1949 on the Standing RockReservation, located on the border of NorthDakota and South Dakota. After graduatingfrom high school in 1968, he spent twoyears at the Institute of American IndianArts in Santa Fe, New Mexico and went onto attend the American Academy of Art inChicago, Illinois. He enlisted in the AirForce in 1971. After serving in England,California, South Dakota and Colorado, heretired from the Air Force in 1991 as a StaffSergeant. Since his retirement Del has focused on hisfirst lovepainting. His favorite mediumsare acrylic and watercolor, but he has usedmany mediums throughout his career. Hehas also painted more than 100 largemurals, including one at the internationalarrivals corridor at the Denver InternationalAirport.
