Description: This is a coin minted for the Dutch East India Company, which was established in 1602, but defunct in India by 1800. However the Company was still thriving in nearby Ceylon, so original stamping presses may have been used to mint this coin in 1808. "Batav" refers to the Germanic tribe Batavi, from whom the Dutch claim descent. Someone punched a hole in the coin, presumably to wear it as an amulet, but it is otherwise in near-uncirculated condition.
