The inner core is commonly the crystalline variety of QUARTZ CRYSTAL while the outer skin is made up of micro-crystalline QUARTZ CRYSTAL and/or AGATE. Occurring in egg-like form, many Geodes available to purchase have been sliced in half and polished on the face to enhance the appearance of the Crystal Cave or Crystal Window. This is preferred to its rough form after it is cut in half. If it is a slab, a flat surface is cut so that it can be displayed. Small (Mini & Large Mini size) Geodes or "OCCOS", are most common in Brazil. They are similar to "THUNDER EGGS" which can be found in various places in North America.
