New York City, May 1-2, 1963, 8th NY Art Director's Club Conference PS 52-8

Description: Thirty four original 35mm negatives taken by a professional photographer, my father, the late James V. Culberson, in early May of 1963 with their original, silver halide, wet process proof sheet. The film he used was Kodak Tri-X. He most likely shot these with one of his Leica cameras. There are ten negatives which show scenes from the 8th Annual New York Art Director's Club Conference. In this group of ten there are several of renowned graphic artist Paul Rand at the podium. There are sixteen negatives showing the opening of a small art gallery exhibit and some of New York City's art patrons in attendance. Negatives, proof sheet and CD of the images of the work prior to the art gallery exhibit's opening are in my eBay auction number 266931911246 which I listed two days previous to this one. There are eight negatives that my dad took from a balcony of the hotel on 5th Ave. where he was staying which show scenes on 5th Ave. such as St. Patrick's Cathedral and Sak's 5th Ave. These photo negatives that my dad took are a remarkable look back in time. Sharp, with great contrast and exposure, they will still enlarge well. They have been well cared for in the intervening years. As his heir I am the copyright holder and will convey copyright if requested. With this sale I am including a CD upon which I burned full frame images from each negative. I used a Nikon Super Cool Scan 5000 ED to digitize all the photo negatives. I scanned all of the negatives at 400 pixels per inch, 4,000 pixels on the longest axis. They are all full frame scans done in gray scale since the negatives are on Kodak Tri-X which was B&W. I burned them to a CD which is included with this lot. My dad and his close friend, renowned Houston artist, Charles Schorre, were in NY apparently for this art opening (maybe some of Schorre's work on the walls, I'm not sure) and for the 8th annual New York Art Director's Club Conference.
