He plans a $24.5 billion tax cut and a $60.6 billion deficit, a jawbone attack on inflation and yet another effort to find jobs for the hard-core unemployed. The President's proposals, reported by the Washington bureau's Rich Thomas (right) and John Walcott, were those of a Southern Democratic businessman with a populist streak, and they face certain surgery in Congress. The asking price is $10 a square inch. A ROCKEFELLER BONANZA: San Francisco received a windfall last week when John D. Rockefeller 3d announced that he would bequeath the bulk of his huge collection of American paintings to the city's Fine Arts Museums. Highly personal in its selection, the collection, writes art critic Mark Stevens, represents all that was well-mannered and optimistic in American art of the last three centuries. DEDICATED: The rituals were as old as India itself, but the celebration was essentially American. Hundreds of U.S. members of the movement for Krishna consciousness dedicated their flashy new temple last week in a beach resort near Bombay--and Barry Came joined 15,000 Indians during the devotions.
