Description: Celebrated NIADA artist, Nancy Walters, is well-known for her extraordinary portrait dolls composed of polymer clay. This OOAK piece, which I have dubbed “Rosie,” is a fine example of Ms. Walters’ extraordinary doll making abilities. Primarily composed of polymer clay with a hard stuffed torso, Rosie is depicted as an aged woman with very characterized features. Ms. Walters’ incorporation of hand-sculpted, deep wrinkles; a strong, angular nose; a kind, gracious smile; and hand-painted, inset cobalt eyes highlighted with grey eye shadow lends to Rosie’s strikingly elegant presence. She also features a soft grey mohair wig interspersed with strands of white hair. Ms. Walters’ doll even possesses visible age spots, veins, and bones throughout her face, neck, and hands. Rosie is posed standing and measures approximately 13.5” tall. She is dressed in an artist-made ensemble composed of a mauve dress with a white lace collar and cuffs, silk undergarments, stockings, as well as black velvet heels. Ms. Walters even added a gold wedding ring and a double strand pearl necklace to complete Rosie’s costume. Rosie is also holding a bouquet of dark magenta roses from her beloved husband. She is hand-signed by Nancy Walters c. 1990 on the nape of her neck. Excellent, preowned condition with no signs of cosmetic wear or damage.
