Description: **** NIEUW AMSTERDAM (II) 1936 - 1974 **** Vintage 1950s Holland-America Liner Postcard Written and Posted in 1954 FINE POSTCARD - EXCELLENT CONDITION - BRUSSELS TO USA ALWAYS STORED SMOKE-FREE Condition: Excellent color - 1951 Company postcard !!! NO tears, NO rips, NO discolorations, NO wrinkles, NO foxing, and NO yellowing, with nice sharp corners, with slight hint of wear in lower left corner. This is most unusual for vintage 70+ year-old official Company postcard. Reverse side: of this postcard is clean and fresh, with NO blemishes. It has a Dutch PAR AVION / PER VLIEGTUIG blue airmail label, and is franked with a Belgium 5 franc stamp (dark blue-green Sc#360). Any lemon or yellowish tinge is from my scanner, which sees white in shades of lemon or yellow! Brief Ship History: NIEUW AMSTERDAM (36,287 tons) was built in 1936 for service on the North Atlantic route. After serving as a troopship in WWII, she was reconditioned in 1946-1947 to 36,567 tons, and resumed her Rotterdam - Le Havre - Southampton - New York sailings. She was scrapped in Taiwan in 1974. This is a lovely vintage postcard in fine used condition !! It has always been stored smoke-free.
