Description: Item for auction is a 43.70g individual of my eucrite melt matrix gabbroic breccia achondrite meteorite that was purchased out of Morocco in August 2017. *Beautiful nugget with a patch of glossy black fusion crust, and an excellent proportion and distribution of shock melt and unaltered phases. The former comprised of fine-grained exsolved pigeonite and plagioclase intersected by bold, black shock melt pools and veins, some of which are stippled with tiny vesicles (photo 1, 2). The meteorite is a single 444g stone and 778g of smaller stones, with weathered exterior and patches of fusion crust. Breccia composed of large gabbroic eucrite clasts in a very fine grained, vesicular quenched melt matrix containing angular mineral debris. Eucrite clasts (grainsize up to 2 mm) consist of exsolved pigeonite, calcic plagioclase (An91.3Or0.2), silica polymorph, ilmenite, troilite and Ni-free metal. Exsolved pigeonite grains contain several varieties of host orthopyroxene and clinopyroxene exsolution lamellae. Eucrites are thought to originate from Asteroid 4 Vesta (or other Vestoids (smaller bodies fragmented off Vesta from past collisional disruptions) in the Asteroid Belt in our Solar System. This endcut has been mirror polished on one side, comes with a Big Kahuna Meteorites Certificate of Authenticity. Scale cube in photo is 1cm on each side, and not included in sale.
