Eastbound the Columbian departed Chicago's Grand Central Station at 3:50pm, 25 minutes ahead of the more well-known Capitol. The two trains combined in Washington, DC and arrived in Jersey City, NJ 1:45pm the next day. The westbound train left the Central New Jersey Terminal at 11:55am and traveled over CNJ tracks to Bound Brook, NJ before transferring to Reading tracks for the journey to Philadelphia. At Philadelphia, the train was finally on B&O trackage and headed for Washington. Ten minutes behind the Capitol, the Columbian left the District of Columbia at 4:40pm and arrived in Chicago at 7:20am the following morning. The Columbian 21 inch aluminum passenger cars are superior to any other passenger cars available. They feature fully-furnished interiors with figures, patented overhead StreamLighting, hidden uncoupling mechanism and opening doors. These beautiful blue and gray cars are a must have for any fan of the B&O.
