Description: Oberlin, Ohio Cabinet Card resolute woman w white collar, 1880s by Lucius Upton This woman has her mouth set, giving her a very determined look. Her hair is upswept. She wears a dark dress with a stiff, white collar. Beneath image, on the front are:"18 S. Main St.," and "Upton," and "Oberlin, Ohio" Lucius Upton was an Oberlin Conservatory graduate and a photographer. He opened the Photography Gallery in 1880. There is no back mark. Card measures 6.5 x 4.25 inches. Photo measures about 5.5 x 3.75 inches. Portrait vignette measures about 3.25 x 2.25 inches. Fading to image. Surface scratching to image, and some soiling to image and card. My mother was a photographer who collected antique photos of all types for years. As I am settling her estate, I will be listing these photos as quickly as I am able. There are hundreds of photos to go through, and I am trying to match any information my mother may have left with individual photos. Unfortunately, Mom had dementia at the end of her life and wasn't able to tell me much about her collection. She had done a lot of research into photographers and individual pieces in her collection, and often, but not always, filed her research with the photo(s). I search for more information on the internet and in history books, but it's a slow process and it will take me a long time to complete the sorting and selling process.
