Description: Marchand was born in 1932 in the south of France and was largely a self-taught artist. His only training was in visiting museums throughout Europe where he picked up much inspiration from the great masters. He was especially influenced by The French Impressionists, and his city-scenes reflect the vitality that their work shows. His work has been shown in the major art centers of Europe and the US, and his work is also in many private collections. The canvas which dates to the early 1950s measures 8 ½” by 10” to sight and 16” by 18” including the gilt, wood, period frame with a matching liner and a linen insert. The canvas and paint surface are stable and in excellent condition. The painting also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Merrill Chase Galleries issued most likely at the time of the original purchase.
