Description: DESCRIPTION - An original antique early 19th century etching entitled 'The Cross & Rows, Chester' drawn and engraved by the artist Arthur Godwin. Dated 1931 within the print. A very accomplished etching of the old town of Chester signed and titled in pencil by the artist. Not much is known about Arthur Godwin but more information from his Grandson Ray Godwin and further etchings/paintings can be found online at Chesterwalls.info on their page of old photos and drawings of Chester. "My grandfather was Arthur Godwin. He died in 1989 aged 89. He lived in Prestatyn, North Wales but came from Chester where he worked in the Assay Office and became a Freeman of the City of Chester for his work. He painted scenes of Chester and North Wales well into his eighties and also cleaned and restored paintings. Hope this is of some help to you". Framed in its original black ebonised wooden frame with old boots framers label. Photographed in natural daylight with no digital enhancements. APPROX SIZE of visible image 8.5" x 6.5" and 16" x 14" including mount and frame. CONDITION - In good clean condition with some age toning to surround and with minor marks to frame most notably two small chips to the bottom corners - please see photos to satisfy yourself as to condition as they form part of the description.
