Description: Although chemotherapy is the mainstay of treatment for a wide range of cancers, its therapeutic efficacy is often unsatisfactory. However, there are other non-oncology drugs whose anticancer activity is sporadically reported in the medical literature. In most cases, neither patients nor healthcare professionals are aware of the clinically documented therapeutic potential of these drugs. As a result, their compassionate use in the treatment of chemoresistant or metastatic tumours is not considered. A summary of a clinical case of advanced colorectal cancer is presented. The tumor had metastasised to the liver, lungs and lymph nodes. The failure of various standard oncological procedures left the treating physicians with no conventional means of stopping the malignant progression. In this desperate situation, a trial therapy with an old drug marketed for parasitic diseases has led to a dramatic improvement, including an almost complete remission of the lung and lymph node metastases and a partial remission in the liver. My medical and pharmaceutical background, combined with more than 22 years experience in the daily use of scientific databases, provide a solid basis for the preparation of such report which is supplied in electronic (PDF file) format.
