Description: Oil PaintingOliver Byrne Warman RBA, attributionLandscape Circa 1943 to 1945We offer an oil painting of a countryside vista on linen attributed to the English artist Oliver Byrne Warman RBA (1932-2017). The frame is twice initialed in pencil "O.B.W." on the verso. The canvas measures 24" by 18" and the frame measures 29 1/2" by 23 1/2". Oliver Warman studied Modern History with War Studies at Oxford. For the first 30 years of his life he was a soldier, served in the Middle East, Northern Ireland and operated with the the Arab Legion. For almost three years he was Military Assistant to the Prime Minister. He studied fine art at Exeter University but the principal influences on his development as a painter were the artist, Edward Seago, and the Newlyn School of Art in Cornwall with its emphasis on form, landscape and natural light. His work is in collections such as The Emir of Kuwait, The Sultan of Oman, some members of the Royal Family, The Crown Commissioners, The Crown Princess of Persia, Warbugs, all the clearing banks, The Co-Op, and Shell UK. He painted the English and French landscape and in particular Devon and Cornwall. Oliver Warman was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of British Artists (RBA) in 1984 and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI) in 1989.
