John Henry Antes, Jr. (1736-1820) was a colonial pioneer, militiaman, politician, patriot, and friend of Conrad Weiser. He is probably most famous as the builder of the 'refuge stockade' (Fort Antes) on the West Branch of the Susquehanna River (PA). The Fort was abandoned when officials at Fort Augusta (present Sunbury, PA) refused to support resistance against the Indians in the midst of the struggle with the British, leading to the abandonment of the territory by white settlers. One of the most important records of the frontier and the Revolutionary War.
