Description: ONE RUSSELL & ERWIN CIRCA 1890 ENGRAVED BACKPLATE (40526) Nice backplate that retains its original patina, made by Russell and Erwin, circa 1890. One of the few plates that were engraved rather than being pressed or cast. This one is often found with R & E Mfg mortise locks that have an engraved face that matches the design on these plates. Seems they are mostly found with black porcelain knobs. Plates have been cleaned and clear coated. Each measures 5 1/2" in length and almost 1 1/2" wide. Wonderful condition!!
