The Great Lakes Waterfront Trail follows roads and paths along the Canadian shores of the Great Lakes. The trail system currently exists in two parts. The first begins at Lake Superior just west of Sault Ste. Marie, then proceeds east through that town and along the northern shore of Lake Huron, ending at Sudbury. The other, larger segment begins at Lake Simcoe and follows the south shores of Georgian Bay and Lake Huron, then onward to Windsor and along the north shore of Lake Erie. From there, it passes through Niagara Falls, then traces the shoreline of Lake Ontario, passing through Hamilton, Mississauga, Toronto, and Kingston. The trail ends at the Ontario–Québec border, where it continues onward as La Route Verte. Along the way, the trail has a number of spurs and loops leading to recreational sites of interest. An original of these is most likely to be found in active service, guiding the way for the cyclists and hikers that use the trail. They would probably get lost, in some of the most remote parts of Southern Ontario, were you to remove one of these signs for your own enjoyment.
