Description: Original 1835 antique engraved map of the historical county of Middlesex, England, printed more than 180 years ago. This handsome map was drawn by Robert Creighton, engraved by J. & C. Walker, and published by Samuel Lewis in his Topographical Dictionary of England, London, 1835. There is fine detail throughout, including roads, polling places, borough towns, and boundaries of electoral divisions and hundreds — political subdivisions of the county, established by the First Reform Act of 1832. Among the specific named places and features are Uxbridge, Hounslow, Kings Cross, Finsbury, Engield, Harrow on the Hill, City of London, Bedfont, Staines, Brentford, Hampstead, Westminster, and the River Thames. The political geography of the county has changed dramatically since this map was printed. In 1965 a new metropolitan county, Greater London, was created. It incorporated most of the area of Middlesex, along with parts of neighboring counties. The map has decorative border, and the image area measures 19.7 x 23.5 cm [7¾" x 9¼"]. Condition: This map is in very good condition, bright and clean, with original outline color and no marks, rips, or tears. It is blank on the back, with no printing on the reverse side.
