Here we are offering an original Cuban poster that was designed in the 1990s to advertise the famed Salon Parisien nightclub in Havana's landmark Hotel Nacional de Cuba (National Hotel of Cuba). The 27 x 19 inch poster shows the hotel's Salon Parisien, where the flashy Calor Cubano (Cuban Heat) show has been staged for decades with as many as 100 singers and dances, including international stars such as Nat King Cole and Eartha Kitt. Perched on a hill overlooking the Florida Straits, the Hotel Nacional de Cuba is easily the most famous in Cuba and perhaps the entire Caribbean. Since its opening on Dec. 30, 1930, the hotel's guests have included Winston Churchill, George Raft, Betty Grable, Rita Hayworth, Ernest Hemingway, Fred Astaire, Frank Sinatra, Marlon Brando, John Wayne, Mickey Mantle, Walt Disney, the Duke and Dutchess of Windsor and many heads of state. The palatial hotel with its once-glitzy casino also was known as a haven for American mobsters, who in 1946 convened an infamous summit at the seaside property, immortalized in the 1974 movie Godfather II. The hotel was taken over by the Cuban government after Fidel Castro seized control of the island in 1959. The Cuban government undertook an extensive renovation of the hotel while it was closed during the pandemic in 2020 and 2021. Overall condition of this original glossy poster is good with only small imperfections.
