Description: A fascinating letter by Benjamin Smith of Rhode Island, en route to the California gold fields. The description of the sea sickness and home sickness of some of the other passengers is pretty good! It appears they have touched at Fayal (Faial Island) in the Azores and are bound south to Cape Verde, with approx. 3 months to go before finally reaching California. Quite an investment involved in undertaking such a venture. Nice postal history element where the American Consul Montgomery D. Parker then handles the letter before it receives it's Boston postmark. Very Good condition. Approx. 8 x 10 in. letter with slightly narrower address panel. Satisfaction guaranteed! Insurance & signature confirmation are included.
