Description: Samurai with Rope I bought this as part of a pair of Samurai. They display very well together (see my other auctions). Wood frame ornate gold & black:Art 15.5" x 11.5" Framed - 18" x 23" Outstanding and striking piece by Joan Friedman of NY. She was known for her magnificent vibrant colors and her proprietary technique of glazing her oil paintings and then baking them up to a dozen times to elicit a glass-like finish. She traveled to the orient many times to study her subject matter. I purchased her collection in Chicago in the early 1980's. At the time, she had some large collectors including the then-president of Standard Oil. I have five outstanding Friedman's for sale, if anyone is interested in buying all of them, I will make an excellent deal on them.
