Description: Measuring about 6-3/4" x 9-1/2", and 416 pages long, this is Volume 7 in the series of bound volumes of the weekly "Oliver Optic's Magazine - Our boys and Girls", comprising the issues of January through June, 1870. It is edited by Oliver Optic, and published in Boston by Lee and Shepard. Prominent on the list of contents are a series of four articles on baseball titled "Our National Game", as well as articles on Alaska, ancient cities, bloodhounds, the bombardment of Fort Sumter, the Suez Canal, and the Gulf Stream. Other baseball related content includes an article on "How Base Balls are Made" and an illustration promoting the book "Changing Base" by William Everett. Plus multiple short stories and fiction, much of it credited to Oliver Optic. It is in pretty solid condition for its age, but with a hinge crack at the back end paper, which has left the last few pages detached from the binding. The cover has some extensive surface and edge wear, and the spine hinges are partially split at the top. The pages have some stains and a few crayon or pencil scribbles, some torn or chipped page edges, and a few of the illustrations are hand-colored. Plus an ink ownership inscription on the front free end paper, in the name of the Acme Jewelry Company, of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
