Description: This is an Original Noel Rockmore Book from 2013 Titled: Noel Rockmore & Shirley Marvin: Our Journey to the Discovery of Rockmore 120 Pages with over 1000 images The Unique catalog Number within the Shirley Marvin Collection given to this work is 2013.1679 What is the story about this Noel Rockmore book? What if there was an American Master Artist who dwelled in New York and New Orleans from 1928 to 1995? What if after Hurricane Katrina over 1400 works of art from this master were discovered in Shirley Marvin's New Orleans storage by her children? What if after 7 years of documenting this artist with 6500 images, 7000 transcriptions and hundreds of interviews a book was created in Shirley's 91st year to tell the story of the Journey to bring this artist back. This is the story of Shirley, Rich & Tee Marvin’s Journey to the Discovery of Rockmore. By sharing the best images, resources and interviews; we hope to provide a resource book that will document in Shirley’s lifetime all that we have discovered so far. We simply made a book that we would enjoy and would also be helpful to others now and in the future. We were so close to Rockmore and the hundreds of people that we met and interviewed that it was very hard to be detached and yet seemed absolutely necessary. We felt that if we used other people’s diaries, letters, excerpts, quotes, articles and interviews to tell his story; it would be more objective and less subjective narrative from us. We had found so many resources and there would be no way to use them all and tell three stories, Rockmore’s, Shirley’s and ours in 120 pages. This is not the definitive Rockmore Biography, nor is it the Rockmore Coffee Table Art Book and it is not the detailed Catalog of Rockmore’s works. Hopefully it might inspire all of those but this is not it. It does contain over 1000 images and will give the reader all the information they might need to learn about the artist Noel Rockmore, his parents Gladys Rockmore Davis and Floyd MacMillan Davis, Shirley Marvin, the patron who saved him, and our Journey to the Discovery of Rockmore. Who was Noel Rockmore? See Wikipedia- Noel Rockmore (December 15, 1928 – February 19, 1995) was born Noel Montgomery Davis to his mother, Gladys Rockmore Davis, and his father, Floyd Davis, in New York City. Rockmore was an American painter, draughtsman, and sculptor. He claims to have produced more than 15,000 works of art in his lifetime. He is known for his portraits, his early rise to fame, his Preservation Hall portraits, and for changing his name at the height of the popularity he had developed in New York City. Noel painted in a realistic and old masters style throughout his childhood and adolescence. He experimented with different artistic theories, techniques, and ideas in the New York art world of the 1950s. As the abstract expressionist movement gained momentum, Rockmore left New York and went to New Orleans, where he changed his name from Noel Davis to Noel Rockmore, adopting the surname of his mother. He spent the next 20 years commuting between New Orleans and New York City while various dealers tried unsuccessfully to manage him and his often volatile career.
