Description: Our Lady of Guadalupe – Devotional Copy from the 1700s – Catholic Art Print – Archival Quality Nuestra Señora de GuadalupeOur Lady of GuadalupeThis version of Our Lady of Guadalupe was painted by an anonymous Mexican artist in the 1700s as a devotional image for a church. It is large, almost 7 feet tall. The original image of Our Lady of Guadalupe helped convert millions of indigenous people in Nueva España. This was due in part to the many miracles associated with the image. Many copies of the original were made, and as the copies spread, so did the miracles and the conversions. Jesus told the people of his time when he cured them with a miracle that their faith had saved them. Our faith connects us to God. The faith of the New World was tremendous. Many miracles occurred. Many copies of Our Lady of Guadalupe were made in the centuries to follow. This beautiful version is likely from the 1700s, or perhaps earlier. In the four corners are scenes from the life of St. Juan Diego and his revelations, the lower right being the Bishop falling to his knees when he saw the roses and the image of Mary on Juan's tilma. If any iconoclasts are reading this, let us note that images like this are not revered as some magical graven image, but as a visual representation of the world beyond this one. Eye has not seen, nor ear has heard, nor can the mind of man conceive what Heaven and God are ultimately like, but we can have words, sermons, and paintings that all help our feeble human minds get a little idea. Since the catacombs, Christians have used art to help their faith and aid their worship. Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe is December 12.
