Description: OUTSTANDING PAIR OF ID'ED 1/9 PLATE DAGUERREOTYPES IN RARE TRI-FOLD LEATHER CASE - You are considering a beautiful pair of ninth plate daguerreotypes of Mr. & Mrs. Gallup held inside a rarely seen Tri-fold leatherette case. Each of these fine likenesses capture the handsome couple as individuals, but were well thought out by placing them each at an angle ahead of time so they could face one another in their final presentation. Note that the style of mats is in keeping with those used by some of the top operators; among those few who regularly used these mats was Mathew Brady. I think both were wonderfully groomed and dressed for this pair of plates to be made. She wore bottle curled ringlets and his hair defies gravity in the best rock star way. The case has protected them for more than 170ish years and still operates and displays their silver portraits in the most magnificent way, wouldn't you agree? CONDITION: Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition of this cased images and as part of my description. The two ninth plate daguerreotypes have both been resealed with new cover glass. Both have wonderful bits of patina that add to the overall quality of time. Each image was beautifully composed and placed in matching mats and preservers. The case has very little wear for its age. There are no tears to the leather and the latch system works perfectly. The identification label has been adhered to the interior flap and I have rotated the image so you can clearly read their names (See my fourth listing photo).
