Description: Lovely pair of two antique Dutch prints by Jan Bulthuis of churches from the Netherlands, custom framed in a wood tortoiseshell like frame, measuring 16.5 x 14.5 " perfect for display on their own; as a focal point on a gallery wall; or divided and conquering in various corners of your castle. Custom frames are lovely with a hint of gold, but one frame has a small chip in a couple of places, which I would cover with a little bronze rub and buff, but will allow the next owner to decide what direction theyd like to go to. Not very noticeable, but I like to disclose all imperfections. Other than that, the prints have little if any foxing, and are archivally framed. Jan Bulthuis (Groningen, 1750-Amsterdam, 1801) was a Dutch artist, painter and draughtsman. His painting skills were trained under Jurriaen Andriessen, while his drawing was developed under Johannes Wieringa. While he initially painted landscapes for wall decorations, he later dedicated himself to drawing town and city views. He worked in Groningen until 1780, when he moved to Amsterdam. In 1785 he enrolled in the Stadstekenacademie (City Art Academy) and won a gold medal. His bvest known work is for "Tegenwoordigen Staat der Vereenigde Nederlanden". He also prepared a series of drawings for "Beschrijving van de Zaanlandsche Dorpen". Condition: Excellent considering its age. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study photos carefully. The image size is ca. 9.4 x 6.5 inch. Feature nice countryside church scenes of Dutch 18th century life. These prints are in the collection of Zuiderzee Museum Enkhuizen, from which I found that they were originally printed in Vaderlandsche Gezichten (1790-1791) One print depicts the church in Nieuwland, from the view of a village road with the church with a pointed tower in the background.; There are houses only on the left. On the right are gardens along a ditch. A boy fishes with a fishing rod from a scrub sidewalk. Women are in the foreground putting the laundry on the bleach. Along the ditch trees with tree stands. There are some shelters in front of the houses on the left.;
